Of course, Leo had to take a picture of the choir loft.
Here's a picture of the pews...the hand carved wood was amazing...and note the kneelers....solid wood...no padding...ouch!!
So we continued down the road, going south to the southwestern most corner of Germany...to just a few miles from Switzerland...and we were just a few miles from France. Here are some picture of things we saw along the way:
And yes, they do have fields of marshmallows in Germany!
This is the road leading to the house where we will be staying for the next 6 days:
And here is the inside of the house...the living room and dining area to the left.

This is a view from the house.
And another view from the house. In the far background...the mountains...that's France.
So after we got here, we drove 14 kms to the only grocery store that was open on Saturday in the area and got some groceries...lots of veggies, eggs, 2 chicken breasts for dinner tomorrow. It will be fun to do some of our own cooking for a bit, but I think we have been enjoying the German food so much, that we will still go out to eat regularly. With the big breakfasts we have been having, we have been skipping lunch and then having dinner by 6:00. That's worked out well.
Tomorrow we are going to do some laundry here. They have a washing machine, but no one has a dryer...they hang out clothes on a line...so that will be a unique experience!
We will be exploring around the Black Forest most days, but tomorrow is rest and catch up day!
Location:Freiamt
That place looks fantastic. Good luck with the washing machine, in Europe they are incomprehensible. I was there with 2 phd scientists and it took all of us staring at the symbols for about an hour debating what they meant. I think we still got it wrong.
ReplyDeletethose photos are awesome. i might use one of those as my desktop background. also, the house looks friggin sweet. i agree you should eat at german places though, as much as possible. that's half the reason to go to germany. the other half is the beer.
ReplyDeleteAndy, you are so right about the washing machine. This morning I woke up and put some clothes in the washing machine and it did take awhile to figure it out, but what I saw (or could understand) was the choice of temperature...so I chose the middle ground. It flashed up some numbers and I punched "go". We ate a leisurely breakfast and then I went down to get the laundry (it had been about an hour). The machine had some numbers on it : 1:24. Cripey! It still had 1 hour and 24 minutes to go! So the beginning number was 2:43. Holy smokes! With that much time they should be washed, dried, ironed, and put away!
ReplyDeleteMatt, you're welcome to any of the photos for a desktop background. And about eating out...I think we will be doing more of that. Breakfast included having 2 boil-overs on the stove (trying to poach some eggs) and burning myself on the water boiler! We'll do dinner tonight, then I think we'll be eating out mostly.
Thank you for the little talk on "fahrts"...very
ReplyDeleteinformative...ha...ha!!!
The photos are beyond truly amazing...gorgeous..gorgeous..gorgeous! Love the house where you are staying. I'll tell Betsy that there are washing machines there...she was pretty worried about that for you! :)
