We are here!

yay! We're here in Germany! Landed and caught a shuttle to our hotel for the night. I hesitate to tell you what it is...it's a Holiday Inn Express (booooo hissss!)...I know, I know, but it was inexpensive, close to the airport (we aren't renting our car til tomorrow morning), and all we needed was a clean place where we could just sleep. We checked in and sadly had to call the desk to see if they had electricity (none of the lights worked). We found out you have to insert your room key and leave it in a slot in order to turn on the lights. When you leave the room and have to take your key with you, the lights then go off (a very smart way to economize on energy). So once we got the lights on, then there was the toilet. I think you learn a lot about a culture by studying their toilets. In this case, it's the flushing mechanism. As you can see, there are 2 choices (buttons) to push to flush. The small circle is for if you just pee and the large circle is for poop.

Again, these Germans are very wise about ecological matters!

So for lunch/dinner, we walked across the street and went to a little gasthaus restaurant...outdoors. It was called the Waldheim (forest home). We each got a Warsteiner beer

and then Leo ordered a pork knuckle with kraut & knudel dumpling.

Oh, Leo, we need to have a talk about picture taking. You must have missed out on picture posing 101.

I had some roasted pork with kraut & dumpling.

And then we both split a piece of apfel strudel...yum!

We came back and Leo took a shower and laid down in bed and he was out in 5 minutes! I'm writing this blog and then heading to bed. It's only 5:00 PM here, but we're planning on getting up around 5:00 tomorrow morning to get a start to get back to the airport and rent our car and take off.

We're not sure where the road is taking us tomorrow. We'll head to Rotenburg ob der Tauber but not sure past that. I'll post more the next time I'm near wifi.

  1. Tell dad to stop making that face in photos. You have to actively make him laugh to get him to make a normal face. haha.

Looks like you are already having fun! :-) Was the food amazing??? It certainly looks delicious!

  4. Looks like Leo's study of "menu" German has been a success.
In that gray shirt, Leo looks like he should be eating off a metal tray and should have a number on his shirt! Although I'm sure the food was better than what he could have gotten behind bars.

    Have Fun!
