Heilige Scheisse! (google it!)

Frustuck war wunderbar! An amazing breakfast this morning...all the usual good things & even better. The yogurt bar included at least 10 bowls of various healthy toppings, among them: sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ, flax seed, walnuts, pecans, dry oatmeal, cocoa. And the plain yogurt here is really good. Also at breakfast there was a choice of about 8 different bread rolls - the multi-grain one with tons of seeds on top is our favorite. I have forgotten to say that at most every breakfast that we've had, we get silver service with coffee at our table. So this morning here is what our table looked like:

Isn't that beautiful!
And if that isn't enough, there is also this:

This is the jam bar...all homemade by the lady that runs the gasthaus. They grow their own apples and so quite a few of the jams included apples. Varieties included: apple & plum jam, strawberry, mixed berry, apricot...all homemade. Gott in Himmel!!

Actually, this jam table is why Leo chose this place a month or so ago. He saw it online and he was thrilled with the jams and I was happy with the water that they serve with crystals in it (amethyst, rose quartz, quartz).

At breakfast for the fruit juice, we had homemade pressed apple juice that put Kimmel Orchard apple juice to shame! The apples that I bought yesterday here were grown by the owners...the variety that I really liked (best apple ever!) is called Elstar. I don't know if they have it in the States or not. Here are some pictures of the apple orchard:

And here are a few pictures of where we stayed:

On the way out of town we passed tons of apple orchards...no wonder the apfelkuchen is so good around here! And also saw massive amounts of vineyards with white, red, and purple grapes.

This last photo shows a stick with netting rolled up on it. When the grapes get ripe, they roll down the netting to keep the birds from eating the grapes. By the way...all the grapes hang down (as shown)...instead of being spread throughout the vines. Dang, these Germans think of everything!

We meandered along the east coast of the Bodensee (on the highway). This was on the back of a truck:

The Germans have a way of stringing together the most number of letters possible to make a word. For instance, this word could easily be "arrow" (I really don't know what it means...but you can bet it's a much shorter word in English!). Leo says they must have some amazing spelling bees here!

Driving on the highway today (for awhile on the crazy autobahn) Leo was going about 125 km per hour and some cars came sailing around us as if we were standing still...they must have been going at least 200 km per hour. I don't think they enforce any speed limits here.

Well, on the road today, Leo saw a new word on a sign...I'm sure you can guess what it has to do with....it's "zufahrt" (pronounced tzoo fahrt). He decided that it sounds way worse than ausfahrt. And by the way, he is still mumbling "ausfahrt" off and on. Gott in Himmel, deliver me from this!

Well, while we're on this subject, I think it's time to have a little talk on "fahrts":
ausfahrt = exit
einfahrt = entrance
abfahrt=departure
zufahrt= towards

I'm sure there are many more and I'm sure Leo will find them. I'll keep you posted.

So we drove along and stopped off at the Titisee...no comments needed. Here are some pictures of the lake and surrounding area:

And after we left there, here's a castle we passed by:

So we continued on and drove deeper into the Black Forest and told Gwendolyn to shut up and we just went off on smaller roads and it was totally unbelievable. It just took our breath away. Here's what we saw:

We meandered until we came upon a small town called Todtmoos ( I think it means "dead moss"). It's in the very southwestern corner of Germany ...probably not more than 20 miles from Switzerland. Here is the gasthaus where we are staying here:

And our room:

The view off of our deck:

The view out our bedroom window:

Across the street:

The start of a wonderful dinner:

We had full intention of taking a picture of our meal...but then it came...and we just dug in. This was probably our favorite meal so far. I got pork medallions and Leo got beef with onions. We split each of ours and shared. We walked back to the gasthaus and saw this along the way...it's a street...they just left the tree there:

After dinner we sat out on the deck off of our room, listening to the stream going right by us.

Ok - so the days not over and Leo found another one...it's the name of the Catholic church here...it's called....wait for it....."Wallfahrtskirche". (Kirche means church)...so it's the wallfahrts church. Leo said it's probably where the nuns line up in the choir loft and let 'em rip. He said the young ones hit the high notes and the old ones handle the bass. And what grade level is he?

I just looked up the German word "wall" & it means "dam" ...so this amused Leo even more.
