Sunday - In Munchen stadt ein Hofbrauhaus...

I thought of titling this post "Frustuck himmel" (breakfast heaven), but decided on the other. Breakfast this morning was again, totally awesome!! In fact, I have to say, that breakfast is my favorite meal here in Germany.

Here is what greeted us this morning: although this is only part of it.

My breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with chives, grilled onions, and bacon bits (and no, they were not out of a jar!), cucumber, tomato, an amazing whole grain roll with lots of seeds, camembert cheese, qvark, very strong coffee. I was too busy eating to see what Leo ate this morning!

Sara, here's a honey story...at breakfast we had a choice of 3 types of honey...springtime, forest, and honey with vanilla.

Note the tiny flat bottomed cones...it's for putting your jam, honey, or nutella in. That way you eat the container and don't waste plastic for the same purpose. Like I said, vaht a country!

Sara, this is also for you...this was my frustuck dessert:

Just to make it so you don't cry, it's only about an inch high...maybe less!

Also at breakfast, they had an entire area for kiddies...a kiddie buffet with children sized tables and chairs.

Ok, Sara, this is how it all came to an ending...which do you think is my last delicious bite (you may be surprised)?

Here's a pic looking out our patio...the wall of the city is shown:

And here's in the courtyard...a life sized chess set for kids to play. It reminds me of Harry Potter!

Also, at the place we stayed, they rented electric bikes. Laura & John, I thought you'd like this:

We walked several miles after breakfast, again looking for internet, but no go. It was a nice walk, though.

So we left Nordlingen and continued south. Interestingly in this area, they have a ton of fields of corn. Here's proof:

And Jason and Shanna, you'll be interested to know that as we got closer to Munich, there were tons of fields of hops growing. Here's one hill that was loaded:

And one area that had been harvested:

One last photo for this half of today (too many pictures again!)
This photo was a sign of an upcoming town as we drove along. Of course what Leo, said made me stop and get this picture forever frozen in time. Kids, you know only too well that Dad would have to comment on this. Here's the photo:

And here's Leo's comments...there were 2 of them:

"Johann Sebastian was a dirty old man!"
and
"this is classic porn"

I can hear the groaning all the way over here!

The rest of this post will follow.

  1. My guess for the last bite is the cucumber one!

    That all looks delicious!

Omg.."Johann Sebastian was a dirty old man!" that's hilarious.

I feel like this would be a Joy saying: "You said Cajones" moment...

  2. haha, i love this post all-around. yes, the funny town names are half the fun of driving around in germany! that is really cool about all the walled towns. really puts some historical perspective on how old the communities are. and also how the Germans value the preservation of their history.
